Reading and studying business case studies for fun is not something you typically attribute to college kids. However, for Terry Brown, Vice President of Client Services for Protech Associates, this was what initially drew him into the technology field.
Now, he “oversees the staff responsible for delivering professional services and manages projects for existing clients.”Of course, he didn’t get there overnight.
He recounts his experience working at an Apple store when the first Macintosh was launched, “I had access to all types of computers and early laser printers. After college I helped setup my brother-in-law’s company on a business system using Novell and IBM OS2 networking platforms. Then I did the same with my wife’s family pool business using Windows “NT”, which quickly expanded into point-of-sale, inventory tracking and service scheduling systems.
Since I realized IT was becoming more than just a hobby, I decided to go back to school for an MS in Information Technology. It’s been quite an eventful journey and along the way I’ve come to realize that I also have an affinity for working in family businesses and Protech is no exception.”
A big part of Terry’s responsibilities includes working on MX and UX Online upgrades and making sure that Ready2Go implementations run as smoothly as possible. Terry also works with the senior management team to help find “more efficient and effective ways to connect our client’s staff members with the right resources at Protech in order to improve the service experience.”
Terry does not take his responsibilities lightly and that’s because he comes from the association industry. For several years, he served as a Director for the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals.
It was there that he first learned of Protech’s AMS. He says, “After a thorough search of AMS systems at APSP, we determined that Protech was the best fit for the organization. As the project lead I got to know Protech and their operations. I enjoyed getting to know their staff and found everyone to be knowledgeable, professional and very helpful in making the transition.”
So what does Terry like to do when he isn’t at work? Watching his kids play sports and study the sciences like he did when he was their age. He explains, “Over the past decade I’ve spent most of my free time on the sidelines of a lacrosse field or attending robotics events. Occasionally I do slip in some travel to warm climates with great beaches.”
